Non-gated communities are for those that want to entertain without restrictions. That’s not to say a gated community is restricting, but there is always a process of telling the gate that you have people coming over. Then, there is always the one that can’t get through the gate. A non-gated community like Timberwood Preserve and Riverwind Cove is still normally protected by a deed restriction. This includes things such as, not allowing people to put in a half-finished pool in the front yard of the home. Overall, they tend to have lower HOA fees. Sometimes the gates aren't guarded but, automatic and at the end of the day everyone can end up with "the code" to be let in. It all comes down to a personal preference of what kind of style you like living in and if you put value in a fence. Some people like gates and the added protection, others don’t want to live in any restrictions. I can name a handful of people that have gone from a gated community to the rural area of Alva for the freedom they have with the land that they own. Many people like to feel like they’re in control of their home, and property. Whereas, others prefer the gate due to their feelings of the rules being put in place for a reason. For some, it feels like a “security blanket” having that extra bypass in order to even enter the community giving an "exclusive feel". They both have their pro’s, as well as their cons. Honestly, there’s no incorrect way of living as long as you yourself are happy with where you want to live!
