From the Marine Corps to mastering construction and launching his own inspection business, David’s dedication to excellence—and his clients—is clear in every detail. Let’s dive into his journey.
✅ Introduction: Can you tell us a little about yourself and the story behind Accurate Home Inspections?
"I’m a proud husband to my wife Sherry (HR Director), and father to our 11-year-old son, Gavin. We live in Fort Myers, where we’ve built a life rooted in family, hard work, and service. My journey began with four years of honorable service in the United States Marine Corps as a 1371 Combat Engineer (combat construction and demolition). That experience instilled in me discipline, resilience, and a mission-first mindset that has guided me ever since."
"After leaving the military, I transitioned into the construction industry in North Carolina, honing my skills in roofing, framing, flooring, and full-scale home remodeling. In 2004, I returned to Florida and shifted into a new role as an estimator, and later advanced to manager at a collision repair facility. There, I sharpened my eye for detail, developed strong organizational habits, and strengthened my ability to communicate effectively with customers."
"When my son was born, I knew I needed more flexibility. I returned to my roots in construction, earned my inspector’s license, and worked with a few respected companies in the area. Eventually, I took the leap and launched my own company. The rest, as they say, is history!"
✅ Early Influences & Upbringing: What formative experiences or aspects of your background have influenced your journey?
"From a young age, I was taught the value of hard work, honesty, and diligence by my family. The Marine Corps taught me discipline, teamwork, and how to have a 'never give up' mentality. Working across different industries has given me insight into what drives success—meeting deadlines, building strong client relationships, and managing the day-to-day responsibilities that keep operations moving. But above all, being a husband and father has taught me more about love, patience, grace, and fun than I ever imagined!"
✅ Challenges: What are some of the biggest challenges you've faced in launching and running your business?
"The biggest challenge, in my experience, has been understanding just how much goes into running a business beyond simply performing the job. From scheduling and paperwork to invoicing and everything in between, there’s a large behind-the-scenes operation that has to function smoothly for the business to succeed."
✅ Triumphs & Successes: What achievements are you most proud of?
"1. My marriage. Being married is a lot of work sometimes and it takes a lot of love and guts to make things last. It is one of the best decisions that I have ever made."
"2. My child. Raising a child will test your mettle as a human being. You think you understand love, until you become a parent. Then you discover a depth of love you never knew existed."
"3. My business. In a way, I see my business as kind of like an incorporeal child. I want it to grow, learn, succeed, and endure."
✅ Insights & Advice: Any advice for homebuyers, sellers, or fellow entrepreneurs in the home services industry?
"1. Be consistent. Consistency is the key to earning trust which leads to repeat business, good relationships, etc."
"2. Be adaptable. Adaptability is the ability to pivot, change, transform into what is needed for the job at hand. It is critical in business."
"3. Be available. Availability is more powerful than anything because if you are not available, there is nothing else to talk about."
✅ Community & Impact: How has Accurate Home Inspections positively impacted the local real estate market?
"Accurate Home Inspectors of Florida has consistently delivered thorough, unbiased, and easy-to-understand home inspections and reports to clients. We've also taken pride in working humbly alongside real estate professionals to navigate the good, the bad, and the occasional ugly challenges that arise during real estate transactions."
✅ Future Vision: What are your aspirations for your business in the coming years?
"My goal is to build relationships with local real estate professionals, grow my business, hire additional inspectors, and one day start an inspection school in the area."
✅ Personal Reflections: What lessons have you learned about yourself through your entrepreneurial journey?
"One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that you can’t do everything yourself. There are other people who are far more skilled in certain areas of business, so let them take some of that off your plate. It’s also important to stay driven, but not to a point that you lose sight of what truly matters. Your why is more important!"
